This week in Reception, we have been focusing on People Who Help Us.
To kickstart the topic, we had a special visit from the Fire Service. Four fire fighters brought a fire engine to our school and parked it on the big yard. First, we learnt all about their role in helping people who are in need. We discovered that they don’t just tackle fires, they also rescue cats stuck in trees! We were then shown the firefighters uniform and found out that the firefighters only have one minute to get changed when an emergency call comes through. Miss Garthwaite was put to the test and successfully changed into the uniform with 15 seconds to go – wahoo!
We then took our learning outside, exploring the fire engine. We all had the chance to sit inside of the truck before manning the hose and squirting a cone. It was extremely powerful! The firefighters sounded the siren; it was so important that we covered our ears as it was rather loud. They then flashed the lights whilst we posed for a selfie!
We had a fantastic time and learnt so much. Thank you Durham and Darlington crew.
