Here at Framwellgate Moor Primary we offer an inclusive approach to children with
SEN. We endeavour for all children to be included in all aspects of school life where they
are safe and comfortable to participate.
Sometimes, some children require provision significantly different to our mainstream
classroom provision and so we have developed our Grasshopper Provision which is a
specially created area of school with access to additional breakout spaces – both outdoors
and indoors. The children who access this provision often have a bespoke curriculum
specific to their needs and it is not age specific. It is highly adaptable and flexible both in
terms of physical space, and activities on offer, and children have specifically devised
Personalised Learning Plans linked to their EHCPs.
The Grasshopper Provision has its own sensory room, specific sensory resources and a very
high level of adult support (typically 1:2) so that children can be supported to work towards
their outcomes and make good progress. We also offer bespoke activities and trips for this
group such as trips to the Farm, Sensory Café and weekly swimming sessions. Children are
also supported on a 1:1 basis to access lessons alongside their chronological peers where
this is appropriate.
Children in our Grasshopper Provision are typically assessed using BSquared
Some of the Grasshoppers have had a great morning at Trinity School and Sports College, where they competed in teams and played Boccia and New Age Curling. They showed great resilience, skills and team work. A few games were won by them and they were great supporters for others. Mrs Moss even got a chance to have a go competing in the teachers team.
"Bonjour" Grasshoppers really enjoyed International Language day, we listened and danced to French songs and learnt how to say a few phrases We also baked croissants and made our own pain au chocolate, they were delicious.
Then on Wednesday career day, we went and explored the gritter. We sat inside and watched as the plough moved. This was very exciting.
Grasshoppers had a wonderful time doing the colour run!
Grasshopper's had an amazing time at Tynemouth Aquarium where they got to see some interesting sea life. They enjoyed watching the wonderful coloured fish and scary sharks swim all around them in the water tunnel as well as exploring in the rock pool encounter where they got to touch a starfish. The seals kept us all entertained at their show, splashing and waving at us. One favourite part was watching and feeding the River Giants from the Amazonian River, we could not believe the size of them.
Grasshoppers had an exciting morning with Tin Arts, they danced to music and explored the Gruffalo story through movement. They then enjoyed some relaxing, stretching and yoga to end our session.
Grasshoppers had an amazing time at Durham Trinity Sports School and College, they learnt new skills and worked well in a team to play Boccia and New Aged Curling against other schools.
We have been learning all about poppies and Remembrance Day, we have enjoyed creating a poppy with biscuits & watching videos to support our learning.
We had so much on our visit to Hall Hill Farm on Tuesday 25th April
