During September the children have been recording how they travel to school. Children are encouraged to walk or make active journeys to school. Children who do this regularly are then rewarded at the end of the month with a special badge. It was a pleasure to hand these out to the children today. In total we handed out 205 badges to children who have been making active journeys to school. I am sure you will agree this is a fantastic effort.
Travel tracker will be running throughout the year and it is never too late to join in. I can't wait to find out how many bages we will be giving out at the end of October.

As part of our World Book Day celebrations the children took part in a very special edition of The Masked Reader! Yes, just like the television programme but with stories instead of songs. Staff from across school hid behind a range of different masks and read a wide variety of stories to the children. The KS1 children loved finding out which teacher was behind each mask as they chanted, ‘Take it off’ before the big reveal. The KS2 children took part in a competition to see who could identify the most readers using just the clues given. I am sure your children will tell you all about the very exciting event. What a wonderful way to celebrate World Book Day and a special memory for the children to treasure.

On Wednesday, year 1 and year 2 went to LIFE Centre and had an amazing day exploring the museum, learning about light and shadow and exploring materials to built a speedy tunnel to transport watermelons!

Today the KS1 children took part in a special assembly as part of Safer Internet Day 2024. With the help of the digital leaders the children looked at objects such as telephones, record players and gaming devices and compared them to what the devices look like today. The children were amazed by how much the objects had changed and improved over time. They then thought about what they might look like in the future and whether these changes would be positive or negative. The children explained how they use technology at home and the different strategies they use to stay safe online. The children then continued their discussions with the own teacher back in the classroom. A safe and inspirational time was had by all.
In art this week we have been applying our knowledge of colour mixing to printing and create a pattern using the primary colours.
On Friday, Penguins were practicing their colour mixing skills in creating a piece of art inspired by Jasper John’s ‘Colour in Numbers’. Children had so much fun mixing the primary colours in creating secondary colours.
On Monday, Year 1 and Year 2 had a very special visitor to talk about what life was like a long time ago.
Miss Thompson’s Nana came into school to talk about what her life and childhood was like when she was the same age as Year 1 and Year 2, which was 75 years ago!
Here, Penguins really enjoyed interviewing our special visitor and looking at some photos!
On Wednesday in class we showed our memories from when we were younger. In history we have been looking at our living memories which are events that we can remember and also other memories that we cannot remember. We asked our grown ups to share some of those exciting memories that we cannot remember to be able to share with our class.
We all had so much fun seeing everyone’s memories and seeing baby pictures / first steps!
Here are just some of our memories!
